The main reasoning was to keep teams from doing lopsided trades to influence races late in the season. That stuff is tough to monitor.
I am all for not having lop sided trades but this is not like fantasy football where you get a new team next season, trading your best player for nothing in return is stupid. I feel this rule takes a lot of fun out of the game!
